As you might have seen recently, we were over the moon to find out that Nicola Read, our brilliant Head of Compliance, was named Compliance Leader of the Year at the Women in Governance, Risk and Compliance Awards in London.

Nicola was up against some incredibly strong contenders from across industries such as banking and insurance. What set her apart was her ability to show that compliance is not just about rules and regulations. It’s about people. Her work helps shape services that are safe, fair and accessible, and it plays a vital part in reducing health inequalities for the families we support.

Since joining The Owl Centre in 2022, Nicola has brought together clinical insight, digital innovation and a calm, steady approach. She’s helped create systems that not only meet the highest standards but make a real difference to the lives of the people who use them. From developing a nationally recognised safeguarding trends dashboard to supporting the launch of our bespoke clinical system NEST2, her impact is far-reaching.

Those of us who work with Nicola know exactly what she brings to Owl. She has a steady hand, a sharp mind and a calm presence that somehow cuts through even the most complex challenges. Whether she’s guiding us through safeguarding, Cyber Essentials Plus, clinical audits or CQC inspections, she brings clarity, care and quiet brilliance to everything she touches.

Nicola grew up in Pakistan and has always had a soft spot for peacocks. Together, reflecting her global outlook and eye for thoughtful detail; vibrant, thoughtful and always consistent, just like her work.

Congratulations Nicola! You’ve made all of us at The Owl Centre incredibly proud. The recognition is national, but the appreciation starts right here.

(Also, we’re all in agreement that the peacock is the official bird of compliance brilliance.)
